Masuku’s Story of Accounting Success

While some might shy away from a challenge, Fiona Masuku has always been drawn to them. The 38-year-old Zimbabwean grew up inspired by her entrepreneurial grandmother and developed a fascination with the world of business at an early age.

This led her to pursue a career in accounting, and she qualified as a chartered accountant in 2004. After working in various public and private roles, she decided to set up her own financial services company, Creative CFO, in 2013.

The company offers strategic tools and services for small and medium-sized businesses, and Masuku says her passion for problem-solving makes her good at her job. “I love finding solutions to complex problems,” she tells me from the company’s office in South Africa. “It’s something that comes naturally to me, and it’s fulfilling to help businesses grow and reach their potential.” Masuku says her qualification has been essential in her career, as it gives her the technical knowledge and skills to advise her clients effectively.

“The accounting profession is constantly evolving, and it’s important to keep up with the latest changes,” she explains. “My qualification gives me the credibility I need to do my job properly, and it’s also recognised internationally, which is invaluable.” Despite the challenges of running her own business, Masuku says she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I love the freedom and flexibility that comes with being my boss,” she says. “I’m passionate about what I do, and I feel lucky to be able to help businesses grow and achieve their goals.” Masuku says the best part of her job is seeing her clients succeed. “It’s so satisfying to see the difference our advice and support can make to a business,” she says. “When our clients do well, it feels like we’ve achieved something.”

In addition, Masuku is also a qualified management accountant, which she says has been invaluable in her career. Her grandmother served as a big source of inspiration for her, as she was always entrepreneurial and had a great head for business. This led Fiona to develop a keen interest in the business world from a young age, eventually leading her to pursue a career in accounting.
