UCU Strikes took a Pause Due to Proposals

University strikes, which were previously paused over seven days, are ongoing. UCU argue that these changes would threaten their members’ financial security and impact the wider staff and student body.

The proposed proposal by universities includes a range of measures such as: reducing lecturers’ pay by up to 1%, cutting holiday allowances for some staff, and increasing pension contributions for all members of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). This could also include an increase in teaching hours for some lecturers.

Despite its pause, UCU remains committed to a campaign of industrial action to protect its members’ interests. They have already held two days of strikes and are calling on universities to reconsider the proposals. In addition, they are asking universities to enter into meaningful negotiations with them as soon as possible to reach an agreement that addresses all parties’ concerns.

UCU is urging university staff and students to support the union’s campaign for fair pay and conditions for all workers. By showing a united front, UCU can ensure that the issues raised by its members are taken seriously and ultimately secure a better deal from universities on behalf of staff and students alike.
