There’s still a Grand Amount of Unvaccinated Students

As the new school year begins, it\’s important to remember that not all students are fully vaccinated against Covid-19. According to the Office of National Statistics data, as of 22 July this year, only 62.4% of 12- to 15-year-olds in England had received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine. This means that over a third of students in this age group are still at risk of contracting the virus.

The vaccination rates for 16- to 17-year-olds were higher, 80.5% having received at least one dose and 69.8% with two or more. However, this still leaves many young people vulnerable to Covid infection.

Additional findings from the body of research showed that students eligible for free school meals were less likely to be vaccinated than their peers, with only 57.1% having received at least one dose compared to 62.9% of other students.
