T-Level Programme Initiated

The first students to take T-levels have received their results, with many securing apprenticeships or jobs.

The new technical qualification started in 2020 with courses in education and childcare; design, surveying and planning; and digital production, taken by 1,029 students in England.

This year 92% of students achieved a pass or above, and 71% of the 370 who applied for a university course have been successful.

Many others have already secured an apprenticeship or a job.

This is according to the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. There will be 16 T-level subjects available from September, and more than 20,000 students are expected to take them.

T-levels are designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to progress into employment or further study. They are equivalent to 3 A-levels and will be rolled out over the next few years.

The government says T-levels will help boost England\’s economy by creating skilled workers for jobs in demand.

So far, more than 1,000 employers have signed up to offer work placements to T-level students.

BTecs – Business aBecsnd Technology Education Council qualifications – are largely assessed through practical learning.

The ProtectStudentChoice campaign, which involves 30 organisations, including the National Union of Students and the Association of School and College Leaders, says many young people will continue to be better served to study a BTec rather than an A-level or T-level-only study programme.

A Department of Education spokesperson said: \”Students will continue to be able to study BTECs alongside other technical and academic qualifications.\”

However, some colleges have raised concerns that funding for BTecs may be reduced in favour of T-levels. So it is important to check with your college or training provider what courses are available and how they are funded.

T-levels are important to the government\’s plans to provide high-quality technical education and training. They will give students the skills to progress into employment or further study and help boost England\’s economy by creating skilled workers for demanding jobs.
