The district has already made significant progress towards this goal, but some students feel that more could be done.

“I think it’s important that MMSD continues to move forward with its plan to transition to 100% renewable energy,” said one student. “I believe this is something we can and should be doing as a district, and I think it’s important that we stick to our timeline.”

Other students echoed this sentiment, saying that they believed the district could meet its goal and that it was important to do so to set an example for other neighbourhoods and communities.

“I think it would be great if MMSD could be a leader in this area,” said another student. “There are a lot of other districts and communities that are watching to see what we do, and I think it would be great if we could show them that it’s possible to make this transition.”

The students said they hoped the district would continue to progress on its goal and encouraged other students and community members to get involved in the process.

“I think it’s important for everyone to be involved in this transition,” said one student. “It will affect all of us, and I think we all need to do our part to make sure it happens.”

The students’ push comes as the district considers its next steps in the transition process. District officials say they are committed to transitioning to 100% renewable energy and are exploring all options to make that happen.

“We are committed to 100% renewable energy by 2040,” said district spokesperson Amanda Dowd. “We are exploring all options and working with our community partners to make that happen.”

The students said they would continue pushing for the district to stay on track with its timeline and encouraged other community members to do the same.

“I think it’s important that we all keep pushing for this transition,” said one student. “It’s important for our district and community as a whole.”
