In the meantime, the department is asking for views on how the new leadership scheme could be designed and delivered. The consultation will run until noon on 26th July.

Education secretary Damian Hinds said: “I want to make sure that we have world-class school leaders in every part of the country so that every child has access to a great education regardless of where they live.

“That’s why I’ve asked this group of outstanding trust leaders to help us develop the first-class offer of professional development for those leading our largest multi-academy trusts.”

Sir David Carter added: “I am delighted to be chairing this important work which will help MAT CEOs develop the skills they need to lead their organisations through an exciting but challenging time for our education system.”

The news comes as the government prepares to publish its post-16 education and training White Paper, which is expected to set out plans to create a new institute of technology in every region of England.

According to the BBC, the institute will offer technical and vocational education for 16 to 19-year-olds and adults who want to retrain.

The government is also expected to announce a new careers strategy, focusing on young people\’s high-quality work placements.

The White Paper is due to be published later this month.
