Newark Police still struggling to fill crossing guard vacancies

In a statement to Chalkbeat, Newark Deputy Director of Law enforcement Functions Sharonda Morris explained the Newark Police Division is actively recruiting college crossing guards and location up informational tables at senior citizen buildings, precinct community meetings, and group assistance situations.

Newark Neighborhood Avenue Crew has repeatedly proposed options to the Newark Police Department and the state legislature considering that 2020. 

Elizabeth Ruebman, running director and co-founder of Newark Neighborhood Avenue Staff, says a New Jersey statute that involves crossing guards be “of superior moral character” and not have “been convicted of any legal offense involving moral turpitude” functions as a barrier.
