‘Girls know what they want’: New Jersey ladies increase programming to assist neighborhood youth

Growing up in Ecuador, Karen Otavalo struggled to stay enthusiastic in a state in which options did not appear as straightforward for ladies.

After going to the U.S., Otavalo and her loved ones in the long run finished up in Newark, where she struggled to understand English and adapt to the culture. Funding for this grant commenced with the federal Facilities for Illness Control and Prevention’s Rape Avoidance Training grant money and was offered to the N.J. Division on Women’s Rape Avoidance Training software. The division then selected the collaborative to use and organize the statewide team of teens to make the ultimate selection on which nonprofits would get the grants.

As youth professionals, the group also shared what they considered companies should aim on. The conversations led the youthful teens to share their struggles and relate to comparable encounters of marginalized ladies in New Jersey and outside of the experience.
