Are schools closed today? Where snow school closures are in place around the UK and how to check yours is open

[ad_1]

Schools up and down the UK have been forced to close today after heavy snowfall on Sunday.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for ice and fog across the country, while drivers have been warned of treacherous conditions on the roads.

Drivers on the M25 were stranded for several hours after the motorway was closed between two junctions, and there were also long delays on the M11, M2, A21, A27 and A249, according to National Highways.

National Rail said snow and ice had caused severe disruption across the whole of its south eastern network on Sunday night, and airports including Gatwick and Stansted had to close their runways to clear snow.

Here’s how to check whether your school is open, and which have closed so far.

Where have schools closed?

Schools have been closed in a number of counties, including Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Cornwall, Devon, Essex, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Suffolk, Sussex and Wilshire. Some London schools have also closed.

Click on the relevant links below to see the full list of schools closed in each county:

In Hertfordshire Gorsley Goffs Primary School, Crabtree Infants, Presdales School and Flamstead End School are among those to have closed.

In Wiltshire Cirencester College and Malmesbury School have closed.

People in London are advised to check with their individual borough.

How do I check if my school has closed?

The best way to check if your school has closed is to contact the school directly.

Schools that are closing should have informed parents and guardians that they are shutting for the day, either by email or via a notice on their website, but you can call the school if you are unsure.

There may also be information on your local council’s website.
