Teachers Asked to Vote on Strike Action

Teachers and heads across the country have been urged to vote in favour of strike action after ITT (Initial Teacher Training) places fell dramatically for the 2020/21 academic year. This is putting immense pressure on existing teachers and staff, who are already stretched beyond capacity due to years of austerity cuts.

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) and NASUWT issued a joint statement calling on members from all educational levels to use their votes responsibly when they decide whether or not to take part in industrial action. The report highlighted the need for collective strength against government policies that have caused so much hardship in schools over the last decade

They warned that further changes could be imminent if enough people are unwilling to take a stand and demand better working conditions, resources and funding. The statement concluded that it is vital for education professionals to make their voices heard before even more damage is done, both to the profession and to children’s prospects.

By coming together in a show of strength, teachers can negotiate fairer terms with the government and ultimately ensure that every child has access to an excellent education. With continued pressure from the staff, parents and pupils alike, there is a chance that strike action could be avoided, but only if these issues are addressed now.

The NUT-NASUWT joint statement urged members to use the upcoming vote wisely: “We urge you all to consider your votes carefully and ensure that educators’ voices are heard loud and clear. We must stand together in these difficult times and fight for the best education for all our children.”

Teachers must unite to bring about meaningful change and ensure that every student receives a quality education. With your help, we can provide that this action brings about the changes needed to protect teachers’ rights and guarantee excellent schooling. Vote now and let your voice be heard!
